Nora H. Felton, a cherished member of the Newton community, was born on October 6, 1935, in Decatur, MS, and entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2025, in Lawrence, MS.
Nora grew up in the Pine Bluff Community and completed her education at Decatur High School. In her early years, she worked at various department stores in Newton, where she became known for her warm smile and steadfast work ethic. It was at Pine Bluff Baptist Church that she met the love of her life, Marion Felton. Together, they harmonized in the Newton County Quartet and the Bud Jones Quartet, sharing their love of music with those around them.
Marion and Nora, who recently celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage that began on May 26, 1956, worked side by side at the Newton Company, embodying a partnership that flourished in both work and life. Later in her journey, Nora also took on part-time roles at the Newton County Gin and Esco Corp, diversifying her contributions to the community she loved.
She and her husband, Marion, were active members at Hazel Baptist Church in Lake, MS, for 41 years, where Marion served as Minister of Music. While serving at Hazel, they formed a quartet with church members Amy Clay and Mark Savell, and sang together at various church and community events for several years. Prior to their years at Hazel, they were members at First Baptist Church of Newton, MS, while raising their 3 boys. At First Baptist, they sang in the choir together, and Nora helped in the children’s ministry and worked in the weekday Kindergarten program. They recently rejoined First Baptist Church after Marion’s retirement from Hazel. A lifelong resident of Newton County, Nora cultivated friendships and contributed to the community throughout her life.
Nora was a woman of many passions; she found joy in vegetable and flower gardening, fishing, camping, and traveling. Her artistic flair shone through in her various creative endeavors, which reflected her love for beauty in all forms. She was a talented artist who painted some beautiful pictures that decorated their home. She was also an amazing cook who enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, adjusting recipes to suit her taste. Above all, she treasured the moments spent with her family, nurturing bonds that will endure across generations.
Nora is survived by her beloved husband, Marion Felton of Lawrence, MS; her three devoted sons, Joey Felton (Denise) of Laurel, MS, Steve Felton (Linda) of Chunky, MS, and David Felton (Michelle) of Newnan, GA; her sister, Marie Ezell (Lynn) of Decatur, MS; her two brothers, Bud Hollingsworth of Newton, MS, and Dale Hollingsworth (Lessie) of Newton, MS; as well as seven grandchildren - Kym Dabbs (Bill), Jason Felton (Jennifer) , Brian Felton (Kayla), Kristen Smith (Jason), Kelsey Sarmiento (Elijah), Allison Felton, and Nathan Felton; eight great-grandchildren - Sarah Dabbs, Elaina Dabbs, Caleb Dabbs, Remington Dabbs, Brandon Felton, Natali Felton, Rowdy Felton, and Jude Sarmiento; and a number of nieces and nephews who will carry forward her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Agnes Hollingsworth, who provided her with a foundation of love and support that she cherished throughout her life.
The family invites extended family and friends to honor Nora's life during a visitation on September 10, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the First Baptist Church of Newton, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
