Patty Sue Valentine Gibbs, 77, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Patty was born June 15, 1948, in Lake to Elton and Myrtle Valentine. She was a graduate of the class of 1966 from Lake High School. She married the love of her life, Ernest Gibbs, at their home in Lawrence on August 9, 1984. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Decatur. She worked as an emergency room clerk for Pioneer Community Hospital in Newton before retiring in 2010. She spent her time in retirement as an avid reader and traveler, and she found no greater gift of joy than being involved in the growth, success, and happiness of her family, whom she loved so very much. Patty was a devoted, loving, and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Gibbs; her daughter, Dedria Mitchell; her parents, Elton and Myrtle Valentine; and her sister, Sarah Willis. She is survived by her brother, Billy Valentine (Janice); her children, Daphney Bates (Shannon) and Chad Hillman (Penny); her grandchildren, Hannah Mitchell, Chris Tadlock, Lucas Bates, Haleigh Hillman, Kaytie Hillman, and Colton Hillman; one great-grandchild, Peyton Tadlock; and several nieces and nephews. Family, friends, and others who knew, loved, and whose lives were touched by her are invited to attend her visitation on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton from 3-5 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton at 2 PM with visitation prior to the funeral service from 1:00-1:45 PM. The graveside service will follow at Sharon Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Lake, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Ernie. The funeral service will be officiated by Brother Victor Bugg, and the pallbearers will be Chris Tadlock, Lucas Bates, Colton Hillman, Mark Willis, Brian Talbot, and Shannon Bagley. Honorary pallbearers include Tommy Sanders and Jared Lanier.
