Joey Derryl Hunter, a lifelong resident of Morton, Mississippi, passed away on November 8, 2025, at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest, Mississippi. He was born on January 29, 1960, in Mississippi to the late Jimmie Hunter and Virgie Lee Hall.
He attended New Home Baptist Church in Lena, Mississippi, where he fostered many cherished relationships over the years.
As a father, Joey is survived by his sons Adrian Hunter (Taylor), Robert Turner, and Adam Champion (Kristen), and his daughter Kellie Peleaz (Ricky). He is also remembered by his grandchildren: Wrenley Mae Hunter, Braylon Peleaz, Ava Champion, and Jayda Champion. Joey's legacy continues through a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who held him in great affection.
In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his brother, Danny Hunter, and sister-in-law Sheliah Hood, who will forever miss his warm spirit and generous heart.
Joey was an individual who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, embracing his hobbies with enthusiasm. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and found joy in riding his tractor and working on vehicles. His love for the outdoors provided him with peace and fulfillment. Joey was an electrician at A & B Electric Company for many years and the facilities maintenance supervisor at Unipress for 15 plus years
Joey is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucy Hunter, as well as his sister-in-law, Ellie Mae Hunter, and brother-in-law, Billy Hood. The absence of his parents and late family members will be felt deeply by all who loved him.
Visitation will be held on November 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, Mississippi, starting at 11:00 AM. The Hunter family invites all who knew and loved Joey to join them in honoring his remarkable life and the memories he leaves behind.
