Nora Lee Steinbrech

After a full and active life, Nora Lee Steinbrech passed away on August 13, 2025, three days after her 62nd wedding anniversary.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Newman Catholic Student Center in Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM, prior to the service. Nora requested no flowers, but donations may be made to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation, 2456 S. Riverside Dr., Iowa City.

Nora was a wife, a sister, a sister-in-law, an aunt, an educator, a gardener, a community volunteer, a Scottish Terrier lover, a traveler and of course a tennis player.

Nora was born in San Diego the daughter of Clarence and Juliana (Hildalgo) Duffe and grew up in Wilton, Iowa. On August 10, 1963, she married William Steinbrech of Solon. Nora attended the University of Iowa where she obtained her BA, MA, and PHD in school administration. She began her teaching career at St. Patrick's Elementary school in Iowa City teaching 2nd grade and girls physical education. She advanced her career teaching in the Solon School System and as Elementary Principal in Lone Tree. Her last position was as Elementary Principal at Roosevelt Elementary in Iowa City for a period of 20 years.

After retirement she continued her involvement in education part-time through the University of Iowa College of Education by serving as a Practicum Student Supervisor.

Nora was active in Project Green, Hancher Guild, 19th Century Club, Quarter Questers, Mayflower Society and NN Club.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; brothers, Edward Duffe and Thomas Duffe; and her sister, Kimberly Andresen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Juliana Duffe of Wilton, IA, and her grandparents, Edward and Nora Duffe also of Wilton.
