With the quiet grace and dignity so befitting her, Norma Ruth Allen stepped across the threshold separating this life from the next on the evening of August 6, 2024. She had her loving daughters by her side and, certainly, was comforted in that love in her final moments. Norma had received many visits of family and friends in the days prior to her passing assuring her, in their own way, that she was loved and cherished.
Norma Ruth Hector began her mortal journey on November 5, 1933. She was born to Ruth McLaws and Winford Hector in Tooele, Utah where, along with her three sisters, she was raised.
After a joyful childhood in Tooele, Norma attended school at Utah State University (USU) in Logan where she belonged to the Kappa Delta sorority and cultivated many lifelong friendships. The Kappa Delta motto of "Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful and highest" seemed to motivate Norma throughout her life. It was here at USU that she met and fell in love with the handsome Student Body President, Ross Allen. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 21, 1955 and the blessings of this union will reverberate throughout the eternities.
After a few years in Florida, where Ross was stationed in the Air Force, they returned to Utah and eventually built a home and settled in Sunset to raise their five wonderful children. It was here that Norma lived the majority of her life and formed some of her deepest connections.
Norma's desire and ability to create meaningful and enduring relationships was a hallmark of her life. She involved herself with groups and organizations like the American Business Women's Association, water aerobics, and others through which she sought ways to enrich her life and give service to others.
Norma constantly found ways to quietly serve and lift the burden of others without drawing attention to herself. But she also enjoyed other opportunities to serve in her roles as a Relief Society president, as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the South Dakota mission, in the Ogden Utah Temple, or simply preparing and serving dutch oven meals up at the family's Lazy 2 Ranch. Perhaps her greatest acts of service came during the last several years of Ross' life when he needed so much care and she gave so much in that effort.
Norma found joy in many things and took interest in caring for her yard and flowers, learning to play the organ, watching and identifying the birds that came to her feeder, learning to tap dance, and so much more. She was an avid Utah Jazz and BYU sports fan!
Norma worked and retired from teaching at Doxey Elementary School where she touched the lives of countless students and, in turn, was touched by so many. She had a practical wisdom and common sense approach to life that has been shared with her students and all those who've come to know her. They will be forever blessed for their association with Norma.
Norma rejoins her sweetheart, Ross, along with her parents, and her sister Barbara. Surviving are her sisters Sharon (Bill - deceased) Gibson and Karla (Stan) Snow. Norma and Ross have gone ahead to make ready for the reunion of their dear children; daughters Cindee (Don) Jensen, Nanette (Lane) Wayment, Nola (Marv) Wilson; and sons David (Carolyn) Allen, Roger (Brenda Kennedy) Allen; and for all their children's children to follow. Families are eternal.
