With a heavy heart, we announce the peaceful passing of Laurie Ann Kendrick on September 20, 2025. Born on July 24, 1958 in Ogden, Utah, Laurie was a dynamic woman known for her ambitious spirit, creative talents, and loving heart. From her birthplace of Ogden, she made her home in Hooper, Utah, where she built a life filled with love and accomplishments.
Laurie was a dedicated computer manager at Weber State University and she worked for the Church Education System before her well-earned retirement. Her professional life was marked by her ambition and creativity. She also dedicated time to her hobbies, which included crocheting, scrapbooking, photography, and camping. She was a respected member of the Ogden Camera Club and the Utah Shetland Sheepdog Association. Her resilient spirit was evident when she won the Front Site Man on Man Shoot Off, demonstrating her skill against Navy Seals, Army Rangers, and LA SWAT. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Laurie was very active and held many positions, always demonstrating her faith and love for her community.
Above all, Laurie's family was the center of her world. She is survived by her loving husband, Dale Kendrick, whom she married on November 5, 1977 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; her devoted daughters: Chandy (Jonathan) Briggs and Lindsay Kendrick; her grandchildren: Lyric Briggs and Oakland Keyes; her father, Paul Melling; and her siblings: Blake (Denise) Melling, Angela Andrews, Jason (Jen) Melling as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Laurie is preceded in death by her mother, Ann Jean Melling; and her sister, Annette Melling.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Hooper 4th Ward at 4675 West 5500 South, Hooper, Utah, 84315. An additional viewing will take place prior to services on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 9:00 - 10:00 am at the same location. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 am at the Hooper City Cemetery, 5290 South 6300 West, Hooper, Utah, 84315.
Thank you to Rocky Mountain Care Center in Clearfield, specifically Wendy and George, for their compassion and care for Laurie in her final days.
