Age 86 of Madison, AL, formerly of Horseheads/Big Flats, NY. She was born January 7, 1937 in Corning, NY, daughter of the late William and Arlene (Guile) Payne, and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, May 30, 2023. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles F. Canedy; son David (Nancy) Canedy of Athens, AL; daughter Kim (Joel) McDowell of Birmingham, AL; sisters Joan Sweitzer and Beth (David) Sherwood of Largo, FL along with several nieces and nephews; grandchildren Amy (Theon) Hill, Jennifer (Ben) Gregory, Joshua (Megan) Canedy, Emily Canedy, Payne McDowell, Chadwick McDowell, Trenton McDowell; great grandchildren Michael McDowell, Theon Hill Jr, Mia Hill, Ellison Hill, Chayleigh Canedy. Mrs. Canedy was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Elmira, NY and Starkey Road Baptist Church, Seminole, FL. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 115 West Hill Road, Elmira, NY 14903 on Thursday, June 8th from 10 to 11 am. There will be a private family viewing from 9 to 10 am. Her funeral service will be held there at 11 am. A committal service will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Norma through donations to Hillcrest Baptist Church or Baptist World Mission PO Box 2149, Decatur, AL 35602-2149.
