Norma Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bowlin Cantriel Funeral Services - California on Mar. 19, 2026.
Norma Jean Hall, aged 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, at California Care Center in California, MO. She was the daughter of Cora May (Patterson) Holmes and Harry E. Holmes, formerly Walter Advalt Holmes, in Cooper County Missouri. She was the youngest of the three older brothers, Darrell Holmes, Leonard Holmes (Shaw), and Charles Holmes all of whom preceded her in death.

Norma Jean, known by her middle name, Jean, grew up in the Cotton Community, Cooper County, Missouri, a place that was near and dear to her heart. She loved to dance and attended all of the Saturday night country dances at the dance hall next to the old Cotton General Store. She was a member of the Women's Cotton Club for many years.

She graduated from Clarksburg High School in 1953. After graduation she received her practical nursing training in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and worked for St. Francis Hospital, later earning her licensed practical nursing degree from the state of Missouri. From 1953-1960 she worked as an LPN at Latham Hospital in California, MO before working as a special duty nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri. She later worked for Tilton's Nursing Home in California, MO from the mid-1970's through the 80's, until she retired.

Norma Jean married Howard E. "Bert" Hall on February 24, 1955. Jean and Bert loved country music and attended dances at both the Old 87 club and the LoMo Club. In their retirement years they enjoyed taking road trips together and traveling out to Colorado Springs and the west coast to visit family. Jean and Bert were married for forty-seven years until his death on January 8, 2002.

Jean loved history and antiques and walks in the woods. She was an avid reader and a lifelong patron of the public library. She wrote two books: Hoot with the Owls and Frogs in Their Pockets, which she was always very proud of.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Bolton (David Marthers) of Jefferson City, MO, Teresa Rogers (Carl) of Centertown, MO, and one son, James Howard Hall of St. Martins, MO; five grandchildren, Lynn Pendleton (Curt) of Jefferson City, MO, Joseph Helming (Susan) of Ashland, MO, Jennifer Stephenson (Robert) of Beulaville, North Carolina, Jamie Talken (Sean) of Centertown, MO and Kaitlyn Burrow (Brandon) of Jefferson City, MO, as well as eleven great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Hope Ann and River David Talken.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 1-2 P.M. with the Funeral Service following at 2:00 P.M. all at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the California Care Ctr. Activities Dept. or support your local Library. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services of California, MO. 11/
