Norma Joanne Herlocker
Sept.. 13, 1928 - June 25, 2023
NAPA - Surrounded by her family, Norma Joanne Herlocker, 94, passed away after a brief illness, her sense of humor intact to the end.
Norma was born in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland on September 13, 1928, the only child of Gus & Jennie Souza. The family later moved to Vallejo where Norma graduated from Vallejo High School in 1945.
While attending San Jose State College, she married Larry Combs. They settled in Vallejo and had two children, Lonnie and Laurie. The marriage ended and Norma later married, Tom Herlocker and had her son, Matt.
The family moved to Napa in 1969, where they were part of St. Apollinaris Parish. Norma was active in the Welcome Wagon Club of Napa, especially their bridge groups.
By the early 1980s Norma was single again and began a life of serious travel, including tours throughout Asia, Europe, Canada, and the United States. Her favorite destination was Hawaii, where she would often spend many weeks a year.
Summers were spent with some of her closest friends on Cobb Mountain in Lake County. A voracious reader, Norma was also known for her fashion sense and her competitive approach to card games.
Always excited for social gatherings, one of Norma's greatest pleasures was being with her many friends, who loved being in her joyful presence. She is survived by her beloved family including her children: Lonnie, Laurie, and Matt (Lisa); grandchildren: Jennifer (Bryan), Mary (Nick), Jeff, Mollie, Maggie (Mike); and great-grandchildren: Hunter, Blake, Paige, and Kaylan.
A memorial service will be held on July 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church in Napa.
