Norma Bradt Lovell passed away September 3, 2025 at the age of 84. Norma was born in Niskayuna December 29,1940, the daughter of the late Daniel Charles Bradt and Edith Cordelia (Garrett) Bradt. She was a 1958 graduate of Linton High School and later the Spencer Business Institute. She started her career as a secretary for the General Electric Malta Test Station, moving to General Electric at King of Prussia, PA in 1960. Norma came back to work for the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance. Later she had a long career as a legal secretary. Norma's life was filled with music. Her love of music was developed in high school where she sang in the Junior and Senior Choirs and the Linton Serenaders. She was a longtime member of the Thursday Musical Club in Schenectady, joining them in 1964, and was a founding member of the Thursday Belles. For many years she also sang with the Women of Harmony, a women's barbershop chorus chartered by Sweet Adelines International. Norma was a lifetime member of the Niskayuna Reformed Church, serving in the consistory several times. She was a member of the Church Bowling League, the Pares & Spares Club and the Dorcas Circle. The Niskayuna Church Choir was blessed to have Norma as a member and soloist for over 60 years. In 1977 she founded the Eendracht Handbell Choir and served as its first director. While in the 4H Club she enjoyed knitting and sewing and won a blue ribbon at the New York State Fair for her banana bread. Norma is survived by her son, Scott Garrett Haefner, step-daughters, Sharon Civale (Joseph), Laura Mitchell (Phillip), and Jennifer Chapman, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Gregory Hafensteiner (Lindsay)and children, Cody and Kiely Aubin (Steven), Andrea Mitchell (Megan Thompson) and children, Orsa and Henrietta, Heather Mitchell-Kuzel (Bryan) and children, Josef and Alexander, Griffin Hafensteiner (Michael Champagne) and children, Jordyn and Khloe Hafensteiner, Mackenzie Chapman and Connor Chapman (Sarah) and daughter, Bethany. She is also survived by her nieces, Rebecca (Joseph) Nemic and Andrea (David) Sedlacek, as well as her nephews, Eric (Amy) Bush, Michael (Catherine) Bush and Christopher (Lauren) Bradt. Norma was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Daniel A. and Kerry Bradt as well as her sister, Barbara Bradt Bush. Norma was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph William Lovell. Calling hours will be held at Griswold Funeral Home on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 2 to 4 pm. A Memorial Service will be held Monday September 22 at 11 am at Niskayuna Reformed Church. Inurnment prior to service at 10:30 am at Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery.
