Norma Kennedy VanDerveer, age 91, of Johnstown, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born on September 26, 1933, in Amsterdam, a daughter of the late Herbert Higgs and Caroline Nassel Higgs.
Norma was a graduate of Perth Central High School. She received an associate's degree in Sociology from Fulton Montgomery Community College and then earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Rose in Albany. Mrs. VanDerveer was an educator with the Gloversville School District for many years until retiring in 1990. Norma was a life member of the Park Terrace PTA and the NYS Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Nick Stoner Golf Course and the Albin Hills Golf Course.
She is survived by her children, Kim Hernigle (Frank), Robin Gerbes, Mark Kennedy (Lori) and Jeff Kennedy; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Norma was predeceased by her husband Harold "Red" VanDerveer whom she married on June 23, 1979, and he passed in 1998.
In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
