Norman Dean Harder, 77, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025. He was born in Clinton, Oklahoma to the late Ernest and Annie (Schmidt) Harder on November 15, 1947.
They moved to Hereford, Texas when he was five, and he graduated from Hereford High School in 1966. He graduated from West Texas in Canyon with an Ag Business degree in 1974.
Norman met the love of his life when he picked up her number from the kitchen counter at his parents’ house. A family friend had given Sherry’s number to Annie Harder, saying “one of your boys should call her.” Norman called, and Sherry turned him down because she was moving out of town that very day. Norman talked her into meeting for lunch, and they were married 6 months later in her home church in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Norman married Sherry (Arnold) Harder on February 3, 1973, and they had 52 wonderful years together. They had two daughters, Lee (Harder) Bremer (Chad Bremer) and Cindy (Harder) Flores (Michael Flores).
Norman and Sherry spent most of their lives in Hereford, Texas, where Norman was a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual for over 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and painting in his free time. He also loved spending time with friends and family, especially if it involved being in the mountains. His grandkids were the highlight of his older years, and he and Sherry moved to Lubbock to be closer to Caleb, Gage, Trey (Bremer), Hadley, Emma (Holtman), Lleyton, Trenton and Ashton (Flores) in 2020.
He also leaves behind a brother, J. D. Harder (Michele) of Ransom Canyon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Annie Harder, and his brother Gerald Harder.
Visitation for Norman will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, next door to Combest Family Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 AM, with Rev. Kyle Streun officiating. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.
The pallbearers will be Caleb Bremer, Gage Bremer, Trey Bremer, Lleyton Flores, Trenton Flores and Ashton Flores.
