Nylah Jayde Romero, born on May 28, 2011, in Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025. She was a resident of Iberia Parish. Nylah was a bright light in every room she entered. Her smile, laughter, and spirit had a way of lifting those around her. She was loyal, funny, brave, and a true friend. She spoke with honesty and confidence. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her two best friends, Mollie and Mariah.

She loved dancing with all her heart and had a passion for science. Nylah wanted to learn more about her condition, Glycogen Storage Disease, in hopes of helping others and maybe even finding a cure. She didn't want people to know about her health challenge because she never wanted sympathy or pity-she faced it with incredible strength and courage. She loved K-pop, cherished her family, and touched countless hearts with her warmth and courage.

To her mother, Nylah was a gift from God-a daughter who saved her life and taught her the true meaning of unconditional love. Though she will be deeply missed, her joy, strength, and love will always be remembered.

Cherished by her parents, Megan Cathey and Travis Shampine; grandparents, Jackie Cathey, Donna Lalande Villagomez; great grandmother, Patsy Cathey; parrain, Ryan Romero; and siblings, Braylyn Cathey, Hayze Shampine, Zuri Shampine, Tyson Shampine, and baby brother on the way.

She is preceded in death by Melanie Lalande, Kenneth Cathey, and Raymond Villagomez.

Special thanks to God for blessing us with Nylah, to Travis Shampine, our family and friends, and to everyone who donated and supported us with love, prayers, and kindness during this time.

I'm forever grateful that God chose me to be her mother. Nylah showed me the meaning of unconditional love, and I will carry her in my heart always. - Megan.

Letter From Heaven

When tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not here to see,

if the sun should rise and find your eyes, filled with tears for me.

I wish so much you wouldn't cry, the way you did today.

While thinking of many things we didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me, as much as I love you,

And each time you think of me, I know you'll miss me too.

When tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart,

for every time you think of me, I'm right there in your heart.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory, 108 Hardware Rd. Broussard, LA from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Words of Remembrance will begin at 2:30 PM, followed by a Religious Service at 3:00 PM.
