Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas Funeral Home - Corydon on Dec. 30, 2025.
Nyle "Dick" Gordon Hudson, 94 of Corydon passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at his home.
Dick was born on September 29, 1931 in
Maxwell, Iowa to Lyman & Golda Mae (Leonard) Hudson, the youngest of 10 children. He joined the United States Army, and served his country faithfully during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged. Dick was married to Barbara Flesher, and to this union, his daughter, Deborah and son, Charles were born. He was then united in marriage on July 6, 1968 to Della Geneil Christensen. To this union, a daughter, Carrie was born.
Dick worked as a department manager at Firestone for over 30 years before he retired. He lost his arm during an accident at work, but that never slowed him down. During retirement, he couldn't sit still, so he decided to work seasonal work for the DNR at the Big Creek State Park. He was also Mayor of Elkhart, and a councilman for a long period of time.
Dick's faith was very important to him. He was a lifelong member of the Elkhart Christian Church. In his free time, Dick enjoyed hunting pheasants, fishing, and raising German Short Hair dogs, even having a favorite-Charlie. He never knew a stranger, and made sure to flirt with every woman. Every Friday night, Dick and Della had a standing date with friends for years, which was a very important part of their lives, until life brought them closer to their daughters, and health began to fade. Every two years, the family would have a reunion, and he looked forward to seeing his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Most importantly, Dick cherished spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He always had little sayings for his grandchildren, as they were the apple of his eye.
Left to honor Dick's memory are his children, Deborah Harris, Charles Hudson (Jodi), Carrie Gassman (Rob); grandchildren, Brittany Wright, Cody Wright, August "AJ" Wright, Chuck Hudson (Andrea), Julia Futch (Mike), Mandie Prior (Eric), Brandon Gassman (Lacee), Katie Gassman, Kadon Gassman, Jadon Gassman, Bradon Gassman, Brigley Gassman; six great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Della; parents; grandson, Luke Wright; and nine siblings.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Elkhart Christian Church in Elkhart, Iowa. Interment will immediately follow service at Elkhart Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church.
