Gregory Kent Howard, 57, of rural Stockport, IA, passed away on February 8, 2024, in Iowa City, IA, at the age of 57. As were Greg's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held locally and in Illinois at a later date. Memorial contributions in Greg's honor may be directed to the family. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamiyfuneralhome.com.
Gregory Kent Howard was born on August 25, 1966, in Alton, IL, to his loving parents, Bobby and the late Mary Ann Maurer Howard. He was a proud graduate of Alton High School and went on to apply his strong work ethic at Winchester in East Alton, IL and then as a dedicated construction worker. His resilience and strength were evident, as he continued to be a steadfast presence on the job site until his body said it was time to rest.
His life was filled with close-knit relationships, marked by his profound love for his family. Gregory leaves behind his adoring wife, Ketra Howard, his father, Bobby Howard, his children, Kayla Rae Weger Whitley and Nicholas Russell, a stepson, Jeremy James Cook, a brother, Derrick Howard, and his treasured grandchildren, Oliver Kent Raye Whitley and Violet Rose Luna Stone.
Gregory's interests spoke to the soul of a man who cherished the simpler things in life: time spent with family, the joy of his grandbabies, collecting antiques, and finding value in the odds and ends others overlooked. His home, affectionately dubbed the "petting zoo," was filled with love, laughter, and the companionship of his faithful dog, Apollo, and the many pets he and his wife adored. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him and call him friend.
