Olion “Funny” Anthony, 91, of Idalou, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, September 28, 2025. Olion was born on September 18, 1934, in Elmore City, Garvin County, Oklahoma, to the late Olion Anthony and Altha (Noland) Anthony.
He attended high school in Elmore City, Oklahoma, where he graduated in 1954 with his senior class.
Olion met the love of his life, Retha Mae Choate, and they were united in marriage on May 24, 1957, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Retha preceded him in death on February 5, 2023, after 65 years of life together. Out of this union four sons were born: Kary, Kelley, Kevin and Travis.
He loved to hunt, fish, and grow vegetables in his garden. Woodworking was also his hobby, as was raising horses and cattle. He was self-employed in the construction business for many years before retiring in 2005. Olion was a proud, honorably discharged veteran serving his country in the United States Air Force and was involved in the Korean Conflict.
Those left behind to honor and cherish his memory are his four sons: Kary Anthony of Idalou, Kelley Anthony (Patricia) of Idalou, Kevin Anthony (Renay) of Shallowater and Travis Anthony (Terie) of Shallowater. He also is survived by three brothers: Dobie Anthony (Sue) of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Jack Anthony (Albina) of Leroy and Roger Anthony of Brady; seven lovely grandchildren and nine beloved great grandchildren. Olion was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Retha; a grandson, Olion Kristopher Anthony; one brother, Howard Anthony and two sisters: Sally Hudson and Wanda Carpenter.
Visitation for Olion will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, October 6, 2025, in the Oak Crest Suite of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway in Lubbock. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in the Idalou Cemetery next to his beloved wife. Services are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.
