Olive Mays Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waldon Professional Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC. on Apr. 9, 2025.
Olive Christine Mays passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her daughter's home in Seminole County, Florida on April 1, 2025.
Olive was born on March 30, 1941, on the beautiful island of Jamaica to Benjamin and Vera Grandison. Olive was the second of seven children. Her beloved grandmother took her to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamaica during her youth. She was gainfully employed for many years. She loved flowers, plants, and gardening.
As a classy, hardworking child of God, she worked very hard for everything she owned. Olive had a passion to travel and a quick-witted sense of humor that will be missed.
In 1972, Olive immigrated to Ft. Pierce, Florida, then soon afterwards she moved to Central Florida. In 1977, she became a member of the Mt. Sinai Seventh-day Adventist Church in Orlando, Florida. Even though Olive was unable to physically go to church in her later years, she remained a faithful member and faithfully viewed church services every Sabbath online until her passing.
During her final years, our loving and gracious God allowed her daughter, Shirley, to be her caregiver. Shirley was honored to give back because of what Olive had poured into her daughters until her Lord and Savior called her to rest.
She leaves to mourn, and cherish her memory: her three daughters ~ Shirley Mays, Stacey Mays-Walker, and Barbara Gallier-Campbell; her grandchildren ~ Aaron, Eric, Alexis, Makaila, Dakeem, Sadania, Dazhir, Danazhia, Saneria, Danazhuanne, Ayanna, Iyhalla; her two great grandchildren ~ Veronique "Ronnie" and Calenthia "Cali"; her siblings in descending order ~ Cislyn Grandison, Dalbert Grandison, Joyce "June" Grandison, Winnifred "Patsy" Grandison, and Florence Grandison; along with a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, church and family friends.
Olive was preceded in death by her father - Benjamin Grandison; her mother- Vera Grandison; her sister-Esmine Grandison; and her brother - Sidney Bailey.
May she rest peacefully as she awaits Jesus Christ's soon return. Our prayer is to see her again at the First Resurrection when the dead in Christ shall rise first. Our hope is to share a place with her in Heaven.
Psalm 23:1-6
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Olive will be deeply and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but her Heavenly Father decided it was time for her to rest.
