Olive G.M. Swire of Monroe, NY, passed away at her home on May 11, 2025. She was 89 years old. Daughter of the late Veronica and Steadman Gordon, she was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on March 29, 1936.
Olive graduated with honors from Alpha Academy High School, where she excelled academically. She then pursued her secretarial certificate at Kingston Technical, a program known for its rigorous curriculum, and graduated at the top of her class, demonstrating her dedication and strong work ethic. After completing her studies, Olive began her professional career as a secretary for the Ministry of Finance in Kingston.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Michael Oliver Swire of Jamaica, Terrence George Swire of New York, NY, and Debra A.V. Swire of Monroe, NY; brother Patrick Gordon of Dix Hills, NY; sisters Lorraine Behrbom of Dix Hills, NY, and Erna Ralph of New York, NY. Olive leaves behind a legacy of 5 grandchildren: Luke, Hannah, Abigail, T.J., and Jasmine; as well as 2 great-grandchildren: Dazzon and Ariel. She will also be remembered by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Olive was predeceased by her sisters: Carol, Hermine, and Patricia.
Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at St. Anastasia Church, 110 Route 17M, Harriman, NY.
Cremation by Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.
