Oliver Keith Runyon, known affectionately as Keith to his friends and family, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on June 5, 2025, in
Lakeland, Florida. Born on October 14, 1943, in Paoli, Indiana, to the late Oliver F. and Lois M. Runyon, Keith's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, a remarkable work ethic, and a zest for life's simple pleasures.
Keith's early years were spent in the company of his parents and his brothers, Bob, Bill, Kenny Joe, and Damon Runyon, all of whom predeceased him. The Runyon household was always filled with laughter and love, setting the stage for the kind, funny, and friendly man Keith would become. After graduating from Kathleen High School, he embarked on a career that would see him employ his skills and strong work ethic at John F. Beasley Construction. Eventually, heeding the call of his beloved home state of Florida, Keith returned to his roots and found his calling as a local truck driver, hauling fuel and becoming a well-known and respected figure in the community.
Keith's life was one of joy and commitment, especially to his family. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Gwendolyn C. Runyon, and together they shared a life full of cherished moments. He was a devoted father to his son, Brien K. Runyon, and daughter, Melissa Byrd (David), who will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. Keith's heart knew no bounds, and he extended his love to his grandchildren, Justin Cooper (Suzanne) and Marissa Cooper, as well as his great-grandchildren, Colt and Case Cooper and many nieces & nephews. Though he felt the pain of losing his grandson Corey Lee Pierce, Keith's spirit remained unbroken, and his love for his family never waned.
Keith shared a special bond with his cousin and best buddy, Eddie Kellams (Helen), and he was a cherished brother-in-law to Phyllis Runyon. Together, they navigated the highs and lows of life, always finding solace and joy in each other's company. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness to all who knew him.
Beyond his family, Keith had a passion for life that manifested in various interests. He was an avid fan of vintage cars and trucks, a hobby that allowed him to connect with fellow enthusiasts and create lasting memories. The roar of engines at the Daytona 500 was music to his ears, and he cherished the times he spent watching the iconic race. Keith's love for music was undeniable, with the band "Fever" holding a special place in his heart. Above all, Keith found immeasurable joy in witnessing his grandchildren's baseball and softball games, cheering them on from the stands and celebrating their achievements.
Keith's life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and community. He was a man who could light up a room with his humor, whose friendliness knew no strangers, and whose love for his family was as deep as it was unconditional. As we remember Oliver Keith Runyon, we celebrate a life lived fully, a legacy of love, and a man who was truly one of a kind. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide us in the years to come.
