Olivia McLaughlin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home on Mar. 7, 2024.

Olivia Pauline McLaughlin, cherished matriarch of her family, peacefully transitioned from this world on March 1st, 2024, at the remarkable age of 96. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience that will forever endure in the hearts of those touched by her presence.

Born on August 17, 1927, to Otto and Olivia Lurline Christiansen in Tulsa, OK, Pauline was the second eldest of six siblings—three brothers and two sisters. Even in her youth, Pauline's dedication to her faith was unwavering; whenever the church doors were open, she was sure to be in attendance. Singing hymns in the church brought her immense joy, a passion she shared with her siblings. Together, they frequently performed at funerals and weddings, offering their voices as a source of comfort and celebration. Her early years were marked by modesty as her family weathered the challenges of the Dust Bowl and World War II.

Despite the economic challenges and upheavals of the era, Pauline found ways to enjoy and participate in community life. Activities such as school, church events, sports, and social gatherings provided opportunities for entertainment and connection with others. She met the love of her life through a wonderful introduction by her dear friend, Patti Page. It was Patti who brought Pauline and Orval (fondly known as Dobber) McLaughlin together. Their friendship was so cherished that Pauline would travel with Patti so she wouldn’t be alone early in her music career.  Pauline married Dobber on November 12, 1946, in Cushing, OK.

Shortly after their marriage, they welcomed three children into their lives: Otto (Buster), Orville (Dean), and Oleta. Pauline's spirited nature formed the bedrock of their family, providing unwavering guidance and support throughout their lives. Soon after Oleta came into the world, they embarked on a new chapter, packing their lives into a small camping trailer and relocating to Farmington, NM, drawn by promising opportunities in the thriving oil field industry.

Pauline's industrious spirit led her to employment at Oil and Gas Equipment, a venture she and Dobber later acquired in the early 1970s. Beyond her professional endeavors, she found joy in a multitude of activities, from sewing, knitting, and crocheting to pottery, gardening, and square-dancing. She cherished moments spent traveling in their RV, exploring destinations like Lake Havasu and Lake Eufaula, visiting family in Oklahoma, and having supper with friends. Her devotion to her faith was evident in her regular attendance at Northside Church of Christ, and by attending service during her time at Crane’s Roost Care Home. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Olivia Pauline McLaughlin showed her loved ones love and support.

While we mourn the loss of Pauline Olivia McLaughlin, let us also celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the profound impact she had on those around her. May her memory be a blessing, and may we find comfort in the knowledge that she is at peace, surrounded by love for all eternity. Rest in peace, dear Pauline Olivia McLaughlin. Though you will be deeply missed, your love will live on in our hearts forever.
