Oma Lee Kennedy, a cherished soul whose warmth and devotion to her faith, family and friends left an indelible mark on those she touched, passed away on March 18, 2025, at the age of 94, in Cypress, Texas. Born on March 29, 1930, in San Angelo, Texas, Oma grew to embody the virtues of love, patience, and kindness that would define her life's journey.
Oma's life was a testament to the enduring power of faith and family. She was a beacon of guidance to her loved ones, drawing strength from her relationship with her Savior and imparting that spiritual fortitude to her family. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her active participation at the First Baptist Church.
Her love for her family knew no bounds. Oma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Kennedy, her cherished daughter, Gayla Kennedy, her parents, Elmer and Laura Green, and her siblings, Darrel Green and Francis Stehle. Her legacy lives on through her devoted daughter, Dedra Rowley, and her husband, Bruce, of Houston, Texas. Oma's spirit will forever be reflected in the lives of her grandchildren: Laura Acosta, Larisa Igo and husband Shaun, Samuel Rowley and wife Lauren, Ebby Rowley, Derrick Rowley, Caleb Rowley, and Bryce Rowley. Her great-grandchildren, Marcus, Mason, Caden, Levi, Zane, Madison, and Grayson, will grow up with stories of her kindness and grace. Oma also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will hold her memory dear.
Oma's creative spirit was a vibrant thread in the tapestry of her life. Her hands were rarely still, as she poured love into every stitch of needlepoint, seam of clothing, and crochet loop. Her daughter's wardrobe was a showcase of Oma's talent and care as a seamstress. Her passion for crafts was more than a hobby; it was a way of connecting with her family and friends, of leaving a tangible piece of herself with them.
Friendship was something Oma valued deeply, cherishing every conversation with her best friend, Colleen Roundtree. The visits she shared with her sweet neighbors, Craig and Bonnie Cummins, were moments she welcomed and treasured. To Oma, these interactions were the simple yet profound joys of life.
Oma's son-in-love held a special place in her heart, and she treated him with the same love and respect as if he was her own child. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life, each of them carrying a part of her spirit and love forward.
Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her memory will remain a comforting presence, like the soft embrace of a well-loved quilt. Oma's story does not end with her passing; it lives on in the hearts and lives of those she loved. Her influence will be felt for generations to come, and her memory will be cherished forevermore.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at McNett Funeral Home, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. A Graveside service will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Andrews North Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
