Oma Mae McBryar, passed away peacefully at her home in Trenton, GA on August 29, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born on January 23, 1937, to the late Jude and Dorothy Whited Elrod, Oma dedicated many cherished years to her work at Shaw Industries in Trenton. She took great pride in being one of the earliest employees, recognized as the sixth person hired and the last to leave. Her love for baseball, especially for the Atlanta Braves, was one of the many joys of her life. Above all, her family was the treasure she cherished most; she was a devoted mother who always found joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren. A member of the Boynton Church of God, Oma drew strength and comfort from her faith, often found reading her Bible day and night.
Oma is survived by her loving family, including her daughters, Derinda Williams and Belinda “Bo” (Lebron) Sherrell; her sons, Doug McBryar and Gary (Donna) McBryar; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Issac McBryar; her son, Kenneth David McBryar; and her siblings: Beatrice Cannon, Alvin Elrod, James “Shorty” Elrod, Edward Elrod, and Jackie Elrod. She is also reunited in eternal rest with her grandchild, Alicia McBryar, and great-grandchild, Garrett Goodner.
A funeral service to celebrate Oma’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2024, at 1:00 PM ET in the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Lake Hills Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and on Tuesday from 12:00 PM until the service hour.
Oma will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Amediysis Hospice, the home health team, as well as to sister Terry, Sheila Sprayberry, Teresa Nichols for their kindness and support, and to Donna McBryar for her unwavering assistance during this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boynton Church of God at PO Box 249, Ringgold, GA 30736.
