Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home on Jan. 15, 2026.
Omar A. Botana, 71, of
Estero, Florida, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Omar was born on September 16, 1954, in Havana, Cuba, a son of the late Omar C. and Julia N. (Fernandez) Botana. In 1968, he immigrated to the United States with his family, first settling in Miami before moving to Naples, Florida. He attended and graduated from Naples High School, where he met his future wife, Sherry L. Naeyaert. They were high school sweethearts and the love of each other's lives.
Omar and Sherry were married on February 14, 1976, in Naples, Florida. Following their marriage, Omar joined the Naeyaert family concession business, working alongside his extended family while traveling throughout the country. Their work included special town events, local county and state fairs in the carnival industry. Always entrepreneurial that he was, Omar went on to build multiple businesses over the course of his life. One of those ventures, his cinnamon roll concession, "Cinnamon Rolls by Omar," recently celebrated 40 years in business and continues to operate today.
In 2004, the family started Bay Water Boat Rentals on Bonita Beach Road. In 2006, they expanded with the creation of the Bay Water Boat Club, which today serves hundreds of members. This became Omar's greatest professional pride - a business built on service, integrity, and outstanding customer service, and one that continues as a lasting legacy through his family.
Omar recently retired in 2024 but still could be found at the boat club, visiting with staff, checking in on operations, or quietly making sure things were running smoothly. He especially enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family, and traveling the country in his RV. He was a hard-working and ethical man, deeply devoted to his family, and a loving husband and father whose presence, guidance, and steady support will be profoundly missed.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Sherry L. Botana of
Estero, Florida; his sons, Derrick J. Botana of Miami, Florida, and Adam A. Botana of
Bonita Springs, Florida; and his four beloved Chihuahuas.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the auditorium at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28300 Beaumont Road,
Bonita Springs, Florida. Services will be held at 4:30 PM. For those unable to attend, the service of remembrance it will be livestreamed at https://facebook.com/events/s/service-for-omar-a-botana/906001041960142/
