Opal Nadean Baxter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away March 25, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 14, 1934, to Ode Ross McElhanon and Mary Lou McElhanon in Marlow, Oklahoma.
On December 26, 1955 she married the love of her life, Billy Keith Baxter, with whom she spent 59 years of marriage. They both shared a love of travel and cherished their time with family. She was a proud mother of her son Billy Blair Baxter and her daughter Abby Wynete Baxter, both of Longview. Nadean's love knew no bounds, extending to her grandchildren, Caty Garcia and husband Travis of Diana, Texas and Brooke Long and husband Mason of Benbrook, Texas. She adored her ve great grandchildren and took immense pride in watching them grow.
Nadean dedicated thirty-seven years of her life working for Southwestern Bell where she demonstrated unwavering commitment and professionalism. Her strong work ethic and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Beyond her professional achievements, Nadean was a pillar of strength and faith in her community. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview where her kindness and generosity touched many lives.
She is survived by her devoted children Bill and Abby, her beloved grandchildren Brooke and Caty, her sister Jewel Lambert of Garland and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband Billy Keith Baxter, Nadean was preceded in death by her parents Ode Ross and Mary Lou McElhanon, brothers O. R. McElhanon and T. M. McElhanon, sisters Ozia Smith and Treasure Welch, and nephews Scotty Cherry and Kim Lawrence.
Opal Nadean Baxter will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched with her warmth and grace. May she rest in peace knowing that she leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come.
A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church of Longview, Texas on April 1, 2024 at
1:00 pm.
