Opal Walker, 75, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

She was born on May 1, 1949 in Winchester, Kentucky to the late Everett and Nellie (Rison) Abney. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Arthur Walker Jr; siblings, Michael Abney, Leroy “Buck” Abney, Louise Edgington and Addie Estes; grandsons Johnathan Tucker and Alex Voiles; and great-grandson Gabriel Xavier.

Opal was born into a family that provided her with love, empathy and a lot of laughter. She took those attributes and sowed them into the fabric of her and Jr’s own family. She worked outside the home, but her most important work was done within the home, as she was creating the foundation of what would become her legacy. She was most proud of her renewed faith and her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

Opal is survived by her siblings, Paul Abney and Lourenda Bishop; her loving six children, Paul Walker, Sheila Gosling, James Walker, Donald Walker, Rhonda Hosler (Randy), Eli Walker; fifteen grandchildren, Beth Walker, Tiffany Walker, Kayla Walker, Victoria Walker, Cody Walker, Megan Zeitz (Randall), Lillianah Walker, Lincoln Walker, Whitney Voiles, Andrea Johnson, Randa Kern (Terry), Eric Hosler, Preston Walker, Katyla Walker, and Christopher Walker; fifteen great-grandchildren, Tyler Tucker, Jaccob Walker, Taevion Walker, Jaime Fitch, Dakota Smith, Kamya Smith, Jayce’ion Smith, Braxton Downey, Allison Zeitz, Destiny Mullins, Dominic Voiles, Zach Stewart (Carmella), Cordon Stewart (Ashley), Ashley Lewis (Corey), Katie Roncali (William) and Erica Papai (John); and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 12, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243) with burial to follow at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, KY.
