Ora was born on February 14, 1931, to Martha Ludwick in Hummelstown, PA. During the depression, she went to work at age 12 at a grocery store to help her mother support the family, including her brother, Russell Ludwick. In 1949, she married Garland Hoover and eventually moved from Hummelstown to West Chester, PA. After the birth of their fourth child, Ora went to West Chester University to obtain a teaching degree for Math. She subsequently taught Algebra for over 10 years in the West Chester Area School District. In 1969, she participated with 200 other teachers in a two-week NASA workshop and attended the official pre-launch briefing and the launch of Apollo 11. After retirement, she and Garland traveled extensively in Europe, including the countries of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Switzerland, to name a few. They also extensively traveled the continental United States in their motor home. After living in Florida for over 20 years, she and Garland returned to Chester County to be near family again. Her family often enjoyed listening to her playing the piano, especially at Christmas. She is survived by her brother, Russell, her children, Gary Hoover, Dennis Hoover, and wife Barbara Kolln, Vicki Geehan and husband David Geehan, and Kim Kurz and husband Fred Kurz. She has one grandchild, Jason Hoover, and several step-grandchildren. She was greatly loved by everyone who was privileged to know her and will be sorely missed. Services will be held on October 2 at 12:30 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with a luncheon following at a nearby restaurant. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in her name.
