Ora W. Schroff, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

He was born March 8, 1949 in St. Joseph to Wallace and Betty (Oyerly) Schroff. His family lived in Wichita, Kansas, when Ora was very young, then returned to St. Joseph. Ora was a graduate of Lafayette High School.

Right after graduation, Ora joined the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. His Army career spanned from July 1969 to July 1981.

After the service Ora began a long career as a maintenance mechanic, first at Midwest Hanger Company in Cameron, Missouri, then at Monfort for many years, and later at American Walnut before ending his career at Triumph Foods.

Ora and his longtime companion, Maxine Faye Power, shared many years together before she preceded him in death on September 28, 1991.

Ora loved fishing and camping, especially at Rochester Falls. He also liked to relax with a good Western or movie on TV.

He was a determined, very up-front person who, underneath it all, had a strong love and loyalty for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Raymond Schroff and Louis Schroff.

Survivors include Maxine's children, Tonya McKinney, Arlo Power and Mickey Power-Sigmon; one brother, Todd Schroff (Gloria); several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 20, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
