Orland Laverne "Larry" Espe, 85, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025.
Born September 23, 1939, to Ruby and Ellis Espe, Orland grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard, and brother-in-law, Jack. He is survived by his brothers Ron, Joel (Cheri), Art (Bev), John (Sharon), Randy (Beth), and Greg (Monique), his sisters Elsa and Charlotte, and many nieces and nephews who will remember him with love.
A 1957 graduate of Shabbona High School, Orland enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961. He proudly served six years with the 337th Fighter Group, stationed in Portland, Oregon, earning the respect of his Captain and sergeants through several accolades for his dedication and service.
Music was one of Orland's greatest passions. Whether collecting vinyl records or playing guitar in several bands, he found joy in sharing music with those around him. After completing his military service, Orland made Portland his home. There, he opened Southeast Cards and Hobbies, a beloved local shop that reflected his curiosity, creativity, and love for community.
In 1999, Orland moved to West Virginia, where he spent his later years surrounded by friends, music, and the beauty of the mountains.
Orland will be remembered for his service to his country, his love of music, and the kindness he shared with all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the stories, songs, and memories carried by his family and friends.
