Orvin J. Bronson ObituaryOrvin Bronson passed away at the age of 97 on November 2, 2025. He was the widower of Donna.
Funeral services will be 10:30am, Saturday, November 8, 2025, with visitation one hour prior, at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit, SD.
Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery, rural Summit. Military Honors to be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans NE South Dakota Chapter 1054.
Pallbearers will be, Scott Kneeland, Eugene Steinocker, James Amdahl, David Pierce, Jan Davidson and Robert Orton. Honorary pallbearers will be Orvin's grandchildren, great-grandchildern and nieces and nephews.
Orvin Jewel Bronson was born on June 1, 1928 at the Bronson Homestead farm in Blooming Valley Township. He attended Sunnyside Country School and went to high school in Summit, SD, graduating in 1946.
After graduating Orvin enlisted in the Army. When he returned home, he met Donna Monserud and they were married in 1954. The couple had four children who had a fun filled up bringing on the family farm in which Orvin and Donna took great pride operating for many years.
He served on the church councils for Lebanon and Hope Lutheran and he was a member of the Waubay Legion Post. Orvin and Donna were dedicated workers at the annual Lutefisk supper. Orvin didn't like the taste or smell of fish, but loved fishing.
They enjoyed many years at Enemy Swim Lake with all the neighbors, and many trips to Akaska, SD, fishing the Missouri River, which was instilled in all the family who loved river fishing. After retiring, the couple enjoyed warm winters in Arizona.
In 2021 Orvin moved to Edgewood in
Watertown, SD. He met many great friends, including the kind and generous staff there.
In his free time, Orvin enjoyed hunting, especially deer. He was nicknamed "The Old Buck." His main enjoyment was attending any sporting event with his kids and grandkids, and any other activities they were involved in.
Orvin is preceded in death by his wife, Donna; two sons, Kevin and Steven; his parents, Obert and Julia; two sisters, Marion Skatfold and Ruth Anderson; and grandson, Kerry.
His life will be forever cherished by his surviving loved ones, daughter, Shari (Daron) Steiner, son, Colin (Renae) Bronson; grandson, Kristoffer (Tamijo) Bronson; granddaughter, Summer Bronson (Alex Cifuentes); grandsons, Evan Steiner and Chase (Tashena) Bronson; granddaughter, Saraya (Tate) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Kathy (Todd) Brink; great grandchildren, Kevin Bronson, Addison, Avery, Connor and Cambri Bronson, Camden, Caleb Bronson Cifuentes, and Briggs Bronson.
