Oscar Alex Guelig Jr., age 92, of Johnsburg, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022, at SSM St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
He was born October 7, 1929, in Johnsburg to Oscar M Sr. & Marie (Nett) Guelig. He attended St. John's Grade School in Johnsburg.
On August 11, 1954, he married Rosaline Sabel at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. Rosaline preceded him in death on May 19, 1982. On July 29, 1983, he married Ruth Gillett at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. Ruth preceded him in death on November 9, 1985. In 1986, Oscar met Rita Theisen; although they never married, they enjoyed each other's companionship for 22 years until her passing on July 2, 2008.
Oscar took pride in farming in the Town of Calumet near Johnsburg until retiring in 2006. Oscar liked to play sheepshead, woodworking, listening to music & dancing, putting Jig-Saw Puzzles together, fishing, shelling hickory nuts, and working on word search puzzles. He prayed the Rosary faithfully daily.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holyland-St. John the Baptist Church, serving as a church trustee and a member of the Holy Name Society as well a Catholic Knights member for over 50 years. Oscar was also a member of Winnebago East Shore Lions for 42 years, the Johnsburg Improved Order of Redmen, and the Malone Area Heritage Museum. He was a past director of the Agri-Land Cooperative and a past member of Milwaukee Milk Producers, AMPI, Holyland Snowflyers, and the Calumet Fire Department.
Survivors include his five children, Joanne (Donald) Feldner of Fond du Lac, Michael (Brenda) Guelig of Malone (Johnsburg), Marie Pierquet (Herman Brenner) of Mount Calvary, Roseann (Joseph) Lisowe of Chilton (Marytown), and Robert (Stacy) Guelig of Mount Calvary (Calvary Station); 15 grandchildren, Jennifer (Ron) Feyen, Ryan Feldner, Rose Guelig, Matthew (Kim) Guelig, Gregory (Ellen) Guelig, Benjamin Pierquet (friend, Krista O'Connor), Kristen (Matthew) Schmitz, Nicholas Pierquet, Kimberly (Bradley) Hess, Luke (Ashley) Lisowe, Pamela Lisowe, Tracey (Phillip) Easterly, Kayla, Brianna, & Nathan Guelig; nine great-grandchildren, MaKara, Cadon, and Kenzie Schmitz, Arianna Pierquet, Carter, Callie, and Camden Hess, Rhett Lisowe, Emilia Guelig; Krista O'Connor's three children, Liam, Murphey, and Rorey; his brother, Francis (Mary) Guelig of Malone (Johnsburg); brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Wilfred Nett, Bernice Sabel, Helen (Ken) Birschbach, and James (Kathy) Sabel all of Fond du Lac; Ruth's four children, Judy, Barb, Jim, & Tim: Rita's eight children, Laura, Keith Theisen, Lynn (Greg) Zills, Jeff (Kim), Scott (Kathy), Neal (Shelly) Theisen, Ellen (Dave) Boll, Sandy (John) Vavra. He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Oscar M. Sr. & Marie Guelig; his first wife, Rosaline; a son, Joseph; son-in-law, Gary Pierquet; second wife, Ruth; long companion, Rita; sister, Anna Mae Nett; Rosaline's parents, Roman & Alvina Sabel; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Elmer (Marcelline) and Delbert Sabel.
A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Our Lady of the Holyland-St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg, N9288 County Road W, Malone, WI 53049. Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap will officiate. Oscar will be laid to rest next to his wife Rosaline in the church cemetery following the mass.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Oscar's family at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be at the funeral home Wednesday morning, October 12th from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM when brief rites will be held.
