Francis G. Guelig, age 85, of Malone "Johnsburg", passed away with family at his side on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Hospice Home of Hope. He and his wife, Mary, were just two months shy of their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
He was born April 2, 1938, on the family homestead in the Town of Calumet, to Oscar Sr. & Marie (Nett) Guelig. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Grade School and Chilton High School. Francis served in the Army National Guard from 1959-1967.
On October 31, 1962, "Halloween", Francis was introduced to Mary Jean Feyen by Pat & Freddie Stephany and on October 19, 1963, Francis and Mary were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.
Francis, along with his brother, Oscar Guelig Jr., farmed on the Guelig homestead in the Town of Calumet until they both retired. He also worked at St. Joseph's Convent in Campbellsport in the maintenance department for 10 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. John's Site in Johnsburg, a former member of the Town of Calumet Fire Department serving for 30 years, and a former member of the Holy Name Society.
During Francis's lifetime, he donated 98 pints of blood at the Holyland Blood Drive. He enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino.
Watching sports was his favorite past time; but more important was attending his grandkids sporting events and other school activities.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his three daughters, Jean (Dave) Tennis of Bayside, WI, Lori (Tom) Spletter of Fond du Lac, and Sheri (Tom) Rahmer of Princeton, WI; five grandchildren, Gracie Tennis, Maddi, Mariah, & Ian Spletter (special friend, Jaydin), Katie (Dan) Kusilek; a great-granddaughter, Hazel Grace Kusilek; two brothers-in-law, Don Feyen & Wilfred "Bill" Nett; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Oscar Sr. & Marie Guelig; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, John & Violet Feyen; his brother, Oscar Jr. Guelig and Oscar's first wife, Rosaline, his second wife, Ruth, and Oscar's special friend, Rita; his sister, Anna Mae Nett; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Feyen.
A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. John's Site in Johnsburg (N9288 County Road W, Malone, WI 53049). Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap will officiate.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Francis's family at the church in Johnsburg Saturday morning, August 26th from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
Francis's family expresses their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at Hospice Home of Hope, Harbor Haven, and SSM St. Agnes Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion given to him and our family. The family will always be forever grateful to Dr. Douglas Evans and staff at Froedtert Hospital for giving the family 13 extra years with their husband, Dad, Grandpa, & Great-Grandpa.
