Funeral services for Otis Deshotels will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at the Big Cane Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie. Mr. Deshotels, age 88 of Big Cane, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at his residence. Otis, known as "Pop" and "Paw Paw" by all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was one of the greatest, most Godly men that we ever knew. He was always the one to pray at all of our family gatherings. He knew the Word of God, loved old Gospel music, and his life was a shining example of living a simple, Godly life, to all that knew him. One of his last wishes was for family members to attend church regularly and support the church. He was a long-time member of Big Cane Baptist Church. He loved Jesus, LSU, coffee, fixing and building things, planting things, and his family meant the world to him. He was known by family as being the first one to call if you ever needed to know how to do or fix something. He knew how to do EVERYTHING! He always loved to play with his grandkids and great grandkids and sit outside on the swings to visit. He had a quick wit and always had words of wisdom to give. Otis lived a long, very happy, full life, and his relationship with God was so great that he had so much peace with leaving and going to heaven to meet his momma, who he loved and missed so much. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived and for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is preceded in death by his parents; Joseph Charles and Lenora Joubert Deshotels; his brothers, Everton, Matthew and Charles, Jr. Deshotels and sisters; Ethel Willis, Dorothy Atkins, Ruth Marlo and Anna Jofferion. Survivors include his children, Mark O. Deshotels (Tommie Ann) of Denham Springs, Vicky Chapman (Jason) of Ville Platte and Renee Wilson (Louis) of Big Cane; his grandchildren, Jessica, Alicia, Trent, Garrett, Harlie, Heather and Louie; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Friends may visit on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Big Cane Baptist Church in Big Cane. The family would like to thank Southern Grace Hospice for taking such amazing care of him and comforting his family during this difficult time. Online condolences may be sent to www.hixson-ducote.com.
