Otto M. Homer, age 91, of Lake Ozark, Missouri passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 15, 1933, in West Chicago, Illinois; a son of Otto H. and Gertrude (Glasshagel) Homer.
In childhood, Otto was known affectionately as "Sonny" and enjoyed playing high school football and spending time outdoors. A Korean War veteran, Otto served his country in the United States Army. He then embarked on a successful, decades-long career in telecommunications. Working for Illinois Bell, he started out as a lineman and worked his way up to management, ending his career as a fraud and waste specialist at the telephone company's Chicago headquarters. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, thoughtfulness and detail-oriented disposition.
Otto had a lifelong passion for conservation and outdoor sports. Upon his retirement, he relocated to Lake Ozark, where he spent more than three decades as a year-round resident of the Copper Ridge Condominiums community. He appreciated the region's natural beauty and wildlife (except for the squirrels that bothered his bird feeders) and was a longtime reader of the Missouri Conservationist magazine. He shared his love for fishing and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Osage Beach Assembly of God in Osage Beach, Missouri, where he served as a deacon for 10 years and taught Sunday school for several years. He cared for his church family and enjoyed being active in the church when he could.
Otto was an avid reader, insatiably curious, independent and skilled at working with his hands and solving problems. He was generous and kind and never let distance prevent him from showing up for his loved ones. He was a devoted parent and grandparent and his most treasured time was spent with his family, who appreciated his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Otto is survived by his children Ron Homer, Penny Chapman (Ron), and Karl Homer; his grandchildren Kaitlyn Teer (Austin) and Kristyn Cole (Ryan), who both called him "Papa Otto" and cherished visiting him every summer at his condo on the lake, where he kept a set of fishing poles and life jackets just their size; his great-grandchildren Alma and Otis Teer and Graham Cole; his brother Don (Cheril); a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Otto was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Gertrude Homer and his sister, Violet Long.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, August 15, 2025, at Osage Beach Assembly of God in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes, 514 Highway 42, Osage Beach, MO 65065 (573) 348-3232. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.hedgesscottmillard.com.
