Oveda H. Gardner, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, May 24, 2024.
Oveda was born on December 15, 1930, in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Hector and Edell Hinson. She was raised in Lancaster, where she also attended high school. From there, she got married and started a family and became a homemaker. Eventually she began working, starting at Bell South for a time and later working for Robins Air Force Base as an electronics technician in avionics. After 30 years of civil service, she retired. Oveda was a long-time member of Houston Lake Baptist Church where she was very involved for many years. She served as a Vacation Bible School teacher and often helped cook for church functions or served her fellow church members by feeding and taking care of them whenever a need arose. She also enjoyed participating and being a member of Eastern Star and The Newcomers Club. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, and gardening. Her presence will be dearly missed by those she loved.
In addition to her parents, Oveda was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Charles Morrison Gardner.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Debbie J. (Edenfield) Blocker of Beaufort, SC and Charline Logue (Jimmy Hagin) of Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren, Christopher J. Edenfield (Allie) and Jessica Danielle Bard (Cory); great-grandchildren, John Reid Edenfield, Amelia Ann Edenfield, Penelope Jo Bard, and Delilah June Bard.
At the family’s request, Oveda will be laid to rest privately at Parkway Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Oveda H. Gardner to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
