It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Owen Anthony Macik, who left us peacefully on June 28, 2024 after a courageous battle with leukemia. At only 11 years old, Owen displayed an extraordinary strength and resilience that inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on October 29, 2012, Owen brought immense joy and love to his family and friends. His boundless curiosity and kind-hearted spirit were a beacon of light in our lives. He was a student at Pinewood Elementary (2019-2022) and Bluff Creek Elementary (2022-2024), where he was known for his infectious smile and creativity.
Owen had a passion for sports, Legos, wild animals, and comic books. Owen enjoyed playing flag football, golf, and basketball. Owen loved to fish with Grandpa Loane and family. Owen loved going to the zoo and watching wild animal documentaries. His favorite trip was to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, where he encountered elk, deer and moose along the way. Owen was always excited to get a new Lego set to build. Owen enjoyed reading comics like Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes.
We will remember Owen's love for playing card games like Cribbage and Fast Track. His sister remembers the quirky names he had for his stuffed animals including Chet, Tundra, Bud, and Tiggs.
Owen is survived and deeply missed by his loving parents, Corey & Kelly Macik, and his sister, Claire (7). He also leaves behind his maternal grandparents, Loane & Joyce Burau and his paternal grandparents, Myron & Becky Macik. Lastly, aunts and uncles Michael & Carmen Macik, Beau & Chelsey Gulsvig and loving cousins. Each of them will forever cherish the memories of Owen's bright smile and unwavering courage.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Children's Minnesota and M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital for their compassionate care and support throughout Owen's treatments.
