Owen Sytsma, 65, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born on December 24, 1958, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Dannie and Josephine Sytsma, Owen graduated from Twin Cedars High School with the class of 1976. He married Loretta Krutsinger on December 21, 1991, at the Oskaloosa Assembly of God Church. Following graduation, he worked at Pella Windows, retiring in December 2023.
Owen was a devoted member of the Rose Hill Community Church, where his faith played a central role in his life. He had a deep relationship with God and an unwavering faith that provided strength and comfort to him and those around him throughout his battle with leukemia. Owen cherished the relationships he built with his friends and coworkers, always offering kindness and his contagious laugh. His warm spirit and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He loved gardening, listening to gospel music and playing with his grandchildren. His love for his family was immense, and he found great joy in spending time with them.
Owen is survived by his son, Cody (Jordan) Sytsma of Ankeny, Iowa; two grandchildren, Lennon and Sully; a sister, Pauline Baxter of Oskaloosa; two brothers, Eugene Sytsma and Randy (Sharon) Sytsma of Oskaloosa and a brother-in-law: Cliff Krutsinger. He was preceded in death on December 2, 2021, by his beloved wife of 30 years, Loretta Sytsma; his parents Dannie and Josephine; his father and mother-in-law, Clifford and Vera Krutsinger; and two sisters-in-law, Sherry Sytsma and Lynette Canady.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Mike Sinnett officiating. Owen was in the hospital in Denver, Colorado when my husband was there! Owen was in one of the rooms at the hospital riding a stationary bike and listening to a sermon about Jesus, so I stopped to ask him if he knows Jesus - and of course he said yes. No one knows how much of a blessing Owen was for me. Cancer can be a lonely time even for care givers. I'm sure he will be greatly missed - because even in the short time I knew him - I missed him after he left Denver.

When we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be!

I will see you again dear friend!

Thank you very much Pauline you we also a blessing to me!!!
