Pamela Dawn "Pam" Bumgardner (née Sheffield) passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on January 17, 1957, in Dearborn, Michigan, Pam graced this world for 68 years, leaving behind cherished memories with family and friends.
A dedicated educator, Pam spent over 20 years as an elementary and Title 1 reading teacher, shaping young minds and instilling in countless children the gift of confidence through reading. She believed literacy was one of the greatest tools a child could have, and she poured her heart into ensuring her students felt capable and empowered.
Beyond the classroom, Pam found joy in life's simple pleasures-reading, golfing, and meaningful conversations with friends. As a member of the Venice Golf and Country Club, she formed lasting friendships while sharing her love for the sport. Her passion for literature brought her together with like-minded individuals in two book clubs, where she enjoyed lively discussions and new perspectives. Pam had an effortless sense of style, always adding a touch of elegance to any occasion, often with a signature pop of purple.
Pam's greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She is remembered with deep adoration by her husband, Carl, her devoted partner and greatest supporter. Her legacy lives on through her children: son Ken Bumgardner and his wife Laura; daughter Julie Igielski and her husband Kevin; daughter Janet Fox; and her beloved grandchildren Coen, Henrik, Kendra, Karissa, and Sloane. Pam is also survived by her sister, Karen Swanson, whose lifelong bond brought her strength and joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Joanne Sheffield, whose love and guidance she carried throughout her life.
Pam's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Though she is no longer physically present, her spirit lives on in the cherished memories and the love she so freely gave.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Breakthrough T1D in honor of Pam, supporting a cause close to her heart.
