Pam Edgar Morledge
Mary Pamela Edgar Morledge, 78, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, November 5, after a brief illness. She passed away at Baptist Medical Center-Conway, surrounded by her sons and the music of Elvis Presley (and as for the latter, she wouldn't have had it any other way).
Pam was born Mary Pamela McIlwain in Forrest City, on September 1, 1947, to Edna Bishop McIlwain and the late Raymond McIlwain, who passed away suddenly just a few months before her birth. Edna and Pam then lived with a close friend, Mary Jane Perry, who doted on Pam as she would have one of her own. Throughout her life, Pam spoke of her wonderful memories of Jane. In 1951, Edna married Jim Edgar of Forrest City; he adopted Pam, and he loved her completely. In Pam's own words, she could not have had a more loving or perfect father.
Pam graduated from Forrest City High School in 1965 and attended Mississippi State College for Women. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, where she was a longtime member of the Altar Guild, and for many years served as its chairman. She was a member of Chapter BF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and was a past member of the Garden Club and Junior Auxiliary.
Pam married Frank Morledge in 1965, and he preceded her in death in 2023. She is survived by three sons: Warren Franklin Morledge, Jr, Matthew Edgar Morledge, and John David Morledge and wife, Rachael, two grandchildren, Isabella Jane Morledge and Harrison Edgar Morledge, one brother, Jim Edgar, Jr and wife Brenda, and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much.
She was a devoted and loving grandmother to her grandchildren. She shared her love of arts and crafts with them; after visits, glitter could be found in the house for weeks. She was also a caring and affectionate mother-in-law, and was especially thankful when Rachael came along, because she could now finally "shop for a girl."
Pam was born with the extraordinary gift of always seeing the beauty in others, no matter what, and she possessed an instinctive, beautiful kindness that came as naturally to her as breathing.
Some of her happiest days were spent watching her children run through her house, playing with their friends. If messes were made, she didn't mind.
She was also a remarkable cook, and as her sons grew a little older, she always made more than needed, just in case their friends happened to be hungry, too. Later in life, when her body would no longer allow her to be in the kitchen like she wanted, she spent much of her time reading her tattered cookbooks and going through her old, treasured recipes.
Throughout her life, she saw beauty in everything. She loved her family dearly. She recognized the worth of everyone, and she readily gave help to others if she was able. She gave back far, far more than she took. She was one of a kind, and she will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held from 1 until 2 at Stevens Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, with the Funeral service to follow at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd at 2. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery. The family request memorials be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 400 Hill St. Forrest City, AR 72335, the Northeast Arkansas Food Bank, 3414 One Pl., Jonesboro, Ar 72404 or to St. Jude’s.
