Pamelia "Pam" Lynn McAlister, 69, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Elkhart General Hospital.
Pam was born on June 12, 1956, in Lexington, KY, to Harold and Nancy (Peters) Barnes.
On July 20, 1991, in South Bend, she married Mark McAlister who survives. Also surviving are her 3 children, Natashia Hume, Haley (Daniel) Cope, and Mark J. McAlister; grandson, DJ Hume, V; sister, Starlia (Jack) Marks; brother, Ray Barnes; nieces, Jaxzee Peeples and Briannia (Josh) Wallace; and nephew, Ray Barnes.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pam was formerly a classroom assistant and the after-school director at Holy Cross Grade School in South Bend. She loved investing in the lives of the students she interacted with on a daily basis. Most recently, Pam worked at Insomnia Cookies, which she thoroughly enjoyed and had great rapport with customers, even being named in numerous YELP reviews for her excellent service.
Pam enjoyed painting landscapes and flowers and collecting rocks from every state. Her appreciation for rocks was such that she remembered where she found each one and had them placed at various location within and outside her home, including at her daughter's home. Pam had an affinity for animals and loved each animal her family had the honor of caring for.
She will be fondly remembered for her selflessness and light-hearted humor. Pam truly had a gift of bringing joy to others, including strangers. Her laugh, alone, was such a joy to hear. Pam's greatest joy was her family, whom she loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a. m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery.
