Patricia (Tangney) Ascher, "Pat", of Mashpee, formerly of Braintree, Canton and Hingham, died May 4, 2025 at the age of 91.
Pat was born in Albany, New York, and moved to Quincy, MA when she was 11 years old. After graduation from Quincy High School, Pat enlisted in the US Air Force, where she met her future husband in Waco, TX. Pat and Lowell married in 1955 and, after spending a brief period in Lowell's home state of South Dakota, they moved to Massachusetts to start and raise a family.
Both of Pat's parents were teachers and Pat naturally developed a love of both learning and teaching. One of Pat's greatest legacies is the love of reading she instilled in her children, and in their children. After devoting many years to raising her family, Pat pursued her passion for learning and earned her Associates degree from Quincy Jr. College in 1978. She continued to take courses at UMass, Massasoit and Bridgewater State College. Pat was able to realize her dream of teaching through her extensive volunteer work, especially with Literacy Volunteers and teaching ESL.
In 1983, Pat joined the US Government, working for 4 years at the VA Administration in Boston. She then joined the US Attorney's office where she thrived until her retirement 9 years later. Throughout her career, Pat's performance excellence and passion for her job were recognized with numerous awards as well as several promotions. When they retired, Pat and Lowell enjoyed spending time with friends and family during their annual winter trips to Naples, FL.
Pat was deeply religious, and derived great strength from her faith. Her altruism was demonstrated through her extensive volunteer efforts on behalf of the church, including her devoted participation in the Eucharistic Ministry as well as many years offering solace and compassion through her work in the Grief Ministry. Pat was a dedicated member of the Secular Franciscan Order, St. Anthony Fraternity, Boston.
Beloved wife of 57 years of the late Lowell Ascher, loving mother of Joseph (Mary) Ascher of Goodyear, AZ, Julie Ascher of Goleta, CA, Mary (David) Kazan of New Albany, OH, and Valerie (David) Odell of Sandwich, MA.
