Pat (Patricia) Botwinick
February 20, 1947 – November 10, 2022
In the evening of November 10, 2022, Pat Botwinick, 75, died peacefully of complications from Parkinson's disease. She was surrounded by close family, friends, and caregivers.
Pat was born in the Bronx, New York on February 20, 1947. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a degree in economics and went to graduate school at Fordham University. After completing just three years of college, Pat started working full time at Smith, Barney & Co. in New York as a research assistant while she finished school at night. She then went to work at Time, Inc. as marketing research associate for Fortune Magazine and within a few years, by age 25, became the first research director for the new Money Magazine and People Magazine. When her personal life moved her to southern NJ, she took a job as circulation marketing manager for Dow Jones & Co. becoming the first female manager in a business role at the company. She then made her way back to NY to head the market research department and was eventually tapped to be director of marketing services for Dow Jones & Co. which included market research and advertising. She loved her work and especially the international travel to cities like Hong Kong, Tokyo, London and Brussels.
During her time at Dow Jones, Pat met Alan Botwinick, her beloved husband for nearly 20 years. Pat and Alan traveled around the world for business and pleasure. They were married in Bermuda, which was one of their frequently visited and favorite places.
With her business acumen and desire for a lifestyle change, she took a risk with Alan and boldly launched a marketing research and consultancy company, Marketing Projects Group, Inc. With offices in New York and London, MPG successfully delivered groundbreaking research to blue chip, international media companies.
Pat loved being near the water and over the years enjoyed living in Manhattan, Long Beach Island, NJ, San Diego, CA, Candlewood Lake, CT, and Newport Beach and Irvine, CA. She loved to entertain her friends and family at home. On Thanksgiving, Pat and Alan would host an eclectic mix of family and friends where everyone felt welcomed and shared many laughs.
Pat was an incredibly generous, compassionate, and accepting individual. Her generosity extended beyond her family and friends. When she learned from her church in Newport Beach that a mother and daughter were homeless and living in their car, she invited them to live with her until they eventually settled in their own place. Pat enjoyed volunteering at Habitat for Humanity where she donated her time and shared her business skills helping select families to receive new homes. She was a graduate of Newport Beach Police Citizens Academy.
As one of Pat's early managers remarked, Pat brought to her work "a marvelous blend of intelligence, enthusiasm and dedication." Her legacy of generosity and connecting people has provided life-changing experiences and beautiful, fun memories to all she touched. Her friends and family are around the world on three continents.
Pat is survived by her sister, Kathy Pizzuto, and her brother-in-law, Tony Pizzuto, who were both sterling companions to her in recent years, her niece, Laura Watt, and nephew, Michael Pizzuto, and their families.
A private burial service will be held at St. Luke's Church in Ho-Ho-Kus on Saturday, December 17, 2022. If you wish to commemorate Pat, please consider making a donation in her honor to Parkinson's Foundation,
American Heart Association, or another
charity of your choice.
