Patricia Faye Calloway-Tart (1961 - 2024) was born in
New Haven, CT to Rose C. Calloway and Robert L. Calloway, Jr. She was the baby girl of the family who insisted she was Number One. Pat's early years were filled with many stories - ones that can be shared and those that will remain untold. (Ask those closest to "Paddles" if you want, but I'm sure their lips are sealed). As a high school track athlete, Pat could be seen running through New Haven knowing that when she returned "Ma" would have a bath waiting for her. As a two-mile runner and 200-meter sprinter, Pat's stamina and speed were a powerful combination that served her well academically. She graduated from her beloved Wilbur Cross High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Albertus Magnus College.
Patricia Faye was always approachable. Her compassion and ability to speak the truth were some of her greatest assets personally and professionally. Pat began her professional career at Southern New England Telephone (SNET) company. Years later she joined Design Specialties as a sales associate, where she routinely exceeded her monthly, quarterly, and annual goals. She was a force! Her clients recognized this also, as several continued to check on her when she fell ill.
We shouldn't be surprised therefore that Pat remained a humanitarian through sickness and health. She was co-founder of Sisters Sharing, a cancer awareness and support organization; board member of the Dan Calloway Foundation, a charitable family organization that served the least, lost, and left out; and helped establish Women of Vision, an auxiliary group encouraging financial freedom, health, and wellness. Whether moderating inspirational conference calls for women, donating gifts and toiletries, throwing fundraisers, or dreaming of ways she could support women and children, Pat never felt more purposeful than when engaged in heart-work.
Our "Aunt Pat" loved life! The house parties she and her husband Warren threw were epic. After "the boys" came along, the parties turned into nights instructing line dancers to "kick the can" and "braid the hair," her signature phrases for moves she perfected. "Patty Cakes" was also a fun-loving pool shark who loved to compete, whether playing cards or board games. Pat loved to eat (because she was always starving), travel, sing, dance, and shop. Pat treasured beach vacations with family and friends, packing multiple swimsuits, daily outfits, and jewelry (because you never know). Patricia Faye was ready for anything!!
Pat's love for God and family was her source of strength. She dedicated her life to Christ at a young age. As an adult, she sang in the Bethel A.M.E. Choir, cutting up in the tenor section while praising God without missing a beat. Pat loved fiercely, but she cherished her sons above all others. She loved her nieces like daughters and was blessed with lifetime friends who became family.
Patricia was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Calloway of
New Haven, CT; and her father, Robert Calloway, Jr. of Riviera Beach, FL. She is survived by her husband, Warren Tart of New Haven; sons, Marcus Tart and Malik Tart of New Haven; brother, Robert Saulsbury, Jr. (Lynne) of Ithaca, NY; sister, Joanne Saulsbury (Melvin- deceased) of Fayetteville, GA; brother, Anthony Calloway (Melanie) of Waxhaw, NC; uncle, Daniel Calloway (Delores) of West Palm Beach, FL; and aunt, Anita Calloway Parrish of Riviera Beach, FL. She also leaves to cherish her memory a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-friends, friends, and others whose lives she touched.
