Patricia Steppe Murphy, age 82, peacefully left this earth on Thursday, January 29, 2026 in
Williamsburg, VA. She resided in
Providence Forge, VA at the time of her passing. She was born and raised in
Lynchburg, VA.
Patricia (Pegie) was the daughter of the late Virginia Hendricks and Fred Alexander Steppe. Her husband, Daniel Murphy preceded her in death in 2024.
The family would like to extend a special thanks of appreciation to Amedisys Hospice and to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, they provided excellent care and support to Patricia and her niece over the last month. A very special thanks to Al Davis for all he did for Patricia during her illness. Their compassion and kindness will never be forgotten.
Ms. Murphy was an RN her entire career. She earned her Registered Nursing degree at Petersburg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. "To know how to wait is the great secret of success." Her passion was cardiac care. She worked until 72 years old when she retired from ECU Health Medical Center in
Greenville, NC in the CVICU department. Patricia absolutely loved being a nurse, and she was well respected by her patients and peers.
Patricia enjoyed spending time vacationing and boating at her place in Lake Gaston for many years, she loved the mountains and the beach, playing card games, shopping, and spending time with her family & friends. She loved all her fur babies over the years, especially her yorkies. She loved God and attending church before declining health.
Patricia is survived by her brother, Fred A. "Smokey" Steppe, Jr. and his beloved wife Diane of Brighton, TN; a niece that was like a daughter to her, Lynn Davis of
Providence Forge, VA; a great-niece that was like a granddaughter to her, Willow of
Providence Forge, VA; step-daughter, Danielle Lilley of Ayden, NC; two step-grandsons; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews; and special friends that were like family.
Patricia's wishes were not to have a public visitation and service. Her family will privately celebrate her life by reflecting on the many precious memories she has left behind. Forever in our hearts.
We appreciate all the love, concern, thoughts, and prayers, during Patricia's illness over the last several years. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
