Patricia "Pat" Anna Paulson, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away at her residence on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on February 27, 1930, she was the eldest daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Donnelley) Ferguson. Patricia dedicated her life to her family as a devoted homemaker. She also cared for 2 pairs of foster children and a total of 36 children during her lifetime.
Pat considered herself a Philly girl at heart who loved soft pretzels, a good hoagie, Whitman's chocolate and the Mummers Parade. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and dancing and started to play golf in her late 60s. She was an avid collector of stuffed teddy bears and tea sets. She was a lover of animals and in her later years loved to spend time watching the many birds, squirrels, rabbits and foxes that often graced her back yard.
She praised her longevity to the fact that she never smoked, drank, used profanity or had driven a car (except once, but that's a story of its own that we laughed about many times). We will truly miss her life stories and that witty personality that she held onto all the way through her final days.
In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles R. Paulson; son, Michael Paulson; and brother, Thomas Ferguson. She is survived by her sons, John (Jane), Robert (Martha), and Gary Paulson; daughter-in-law, Anita Paulson; sister, Annetta Dale; 8 grandchildren; 1 step granddaughter; 7+ great grandchildren; and 2 step great grandsons.
The family would like to give a special Thank You to Carol Regan and Kathy Cerminaro for their consistent care-giving help and becoming loving friends with mom over the past few years. The Bayada Hospice Care team who are truly an asset to their profession. The caregivers from 'Your Own Home' in home senior care for making mom's final days at ease and comfortable. Lastly, her humble, supportive, compassionate daughter-in-law, Jane who took the lead and went above and beyond her professional realm to make mom's ending days painless and content. And to all the people who have offered kind words and support during this difficult time we appreciate it and thank you.
Per her wish there will not be a public visitation. In her words "If they don't have the respect to visit me while I'm alive, they don't need to see me when I'm dead." Yes, she was a little ornery too. A committal service will begin at 11 am on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
