Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rhoney Funeral Home, Inc. - Lewiston on Aug. 9, 2024.
Of Niagara Falls, passed away at home on August 8, 2024, after a short battle with inoperable metastatic stomach cancer. She was fifty years old. Trish was born at Fort Devens, in Harvard, Massachusetts, on September 26, 1973, the daughter of Robert and Beverly (Borgatti) Barthel.
As a young woman, Trish survived Hodgkin's Disease. She was cancer-free for thirty-three years and saw each moment as a gift.
Throughout her twenty-seven years of teaching in Niagara Falls-two years at Prince of Peace and twenty-five years at Maple Avenue School-Trish touched many lives.
Though she was looking forward to her retirement, she was grateful for her Maple friends for cleaning out her classroom of twenty-seven years of stuff! Her colleagues were like family, and over the years they watched each other grow.
Trish enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and traveling. She especially loved exploring all areas of the Adirondacks, boating, kayaking, and riding her bike. She felt blessed to have had the opportunity to visit Heidelberg, Germany, recently, where she had lived as a little girl.
Trish graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 1997, with a degree in Elementary Education. She also earned a Masters in Education from Niagara University. She attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Niagara Catholic and Niagara Falls High School. During High School and College, she enjoyed her time working for Maid of the Mist.
On November 16, 2002, Trish married the love of her life, John Pileggi, at St. Paul's Methodist Church, in Niagara Falls.
Trish is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, John Pileggi, her precious daughter, Marisa, her mother, Beverly (late Robert) Barthel, her mother-in-law, Lori Pileggi, her father-in-law, John (Andrea) Pileggi, Sr., her sister, Michelle (Mike) Kratts, her sister-in-law, Paige (Kevin) Fratkin, her brother-in-law, Christian (Brook) Pileggi, nieces and nephew, Caitlyn (Michael Beck) Kratts, Brendan (Claudia) Kratts, Jillian Kratts, many cousins, family and her sweet cat, Polly.
She was the granddaughter of the late Jean (Fortuna) Borgatti who passed away February 22, 2024.
Trish is thankful to her many friends for stepping up at the end, especially Gina Streck, who gave so much of herself to make her more comfortable. Trish was blessed with a lifetime of friends who were ever-present the last few months. She is also grateful to the Niagara Falls City School District-especially Maple Avenue School for showing their support.
Niagara County Hospice made this journey more pleasant through her nurse, Tiffanny. She looked forward to her visits and loved Tiffanny's kindness, excellent care and especially her sense of humor.
Most of all, Trish wanted to acknowledge the love and strength of her husband, John. During these past few months, he went above and beyond to make her transition peaceful.
Her family will be present on Monday, August 12th from 3-7 PM at RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street,
LEWISTON, New York, followed by a brief memorial service by Rev. Kathleen A. Ordiway.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
