Patricia Kay "Patty" Spaulding, 82, of Elizabethtown, passed away in the early morning of April 12, 2024, at Four Seasons Health Care in Columbus.
Born February 17, 1942, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Pauline (Taylor) Stanfield. She married Donald B. Spaulding on January 24, 1960, at Hayden Baptist Church; he preceded her in death on February 22, 2021.
Patty grew up on a farm in what is now the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge with her parents and 4 siblings. Stanfield Lake is now located where the family farm had been. The family had a baseball field in their front yard where they hosted regular games with friends. A pond was in right field, so a solid hit to right field often meant the fielder got wet. The Stanfield kids worked the farm with their parents and had a large strawberry patch that they grew and harvested for spending money in the summer.
Patty graduated from Hayden High School in 1959. After many years as a homemaker, Patty worked at the First National Bank in Columbus for 21 years and was a Vice President when she retired in 1995. Following her retirement from the bank, she worked as the bookkeeper for Lockett's Ladies Shop in Columbus. Patty was an active member of Hayden Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for many years.
Patty and Don were active in their retirement years. Patty learned to bowl and play golf so she could join in Don's favorite pastimes, and Don learned to go shopping without complaining. Patty loved to sew and enjoyed baking with her granddaughters. Patty and Don were devoted to their grandchildren, attending as many school and sport events as they could. The strong sense of family that Patty and Don instilled in their children and grandchildren continues today.
Patty is survived by her sons, Daryl (Tami) Spaulding of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Michael (Joanna) Spaulding of West Chester, Ohio; her daughter, Susan Spaulding of Columbus; her brother, Larry (Debra) Stanfield of Elizabethtown; her sisters, Bette Niedbalski of Columbus and Marilyn Williams of Elizabethtown; her grandchildren, Eric Spaulding of Saginaw, Michigan, Craig Spaulding of Louisville, Kentucky, Patrick (Mekaea Miller) Spaulding of Memphis, Tennessee; Kristen Spaulding, Bailey Spaulding, Shelby Spaulding, and Caitlyn Spaulding, all of West Chester, Ohio, her great-grandchildren, Adeline, Isaac, and Luke Spaulding, of Saginaw, Michigan; and her dear friends, Is and Teri McGraw of Columbus. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Patty.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, David Stanfield; sister in-law, Jennie Stanfield; and nephew, Robert Miller.
A memorial service for Patty will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Hayden Baptist Church, 135 S CR 700W North Vernon, Indiana, with Rev. Lewis Wright officiating. Patty's service will also be live streamed on the Hayden Baptist Facebook page. Visitation will follow the service at the church. A private burial will be held at Hayden Cemetery.
Memorial donations in honor of Patty may be made through the funeral home to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana, or the Hayden Baptist Church.
