THOUGHTS FROM PAT
My name is Patrick Louis Capasso and this is a snap shot of my life. I have one brother and am extremely proud of him and my sister-in-law for what they have accomplished over the years.
GROWING UP
My earliest recollection is looking out of the window when a snow removal machine, that looked like an escalator, went by the window. It scared me so and to this day when walking on a sidewalk or on the shoulder of a road if a plow goes by, it chills me.
Living on Fenwick Street I remember Sputnik going overhead and how it fascinated me. I have fond memories of watching space launches and developed my love of studying the stars and planets and building model planes and space craft.
I also have one fond memory when one day Gary and I were in Ballston when a Circus came to town and they paraded an Elephant down Fenwick Street. Gary was so excited.
The summertime was filled with warm summer days, walking to the playground or up to the old gym, playing kickball in the alley, playing down in the creek or at the playground just to come home for lunch or dinner and then back out into the dark. We would ride our bikes to the Airport and every summer get up early on a Sunday morning to watch the Coleman Bros Show pull into town. I would watch them and try to memorize how they assembled the rides. I worked in the soda stand at the fair and on the last day would sit in the grandstand watching the tractor pulls.
I'd walk to the village pool to go swimming and enjoyed watching the Memorial Day parade or sometimes even marching in it with the Scouts. I loved going to the theater on Saturdays with a $0.25 admission.
The winters were spent watching cartoons on Saturdays and going up behind the County Jail to slide down the hill which would be coated in ice.
At Christmas time, I would walk home from basketball games late at night down front street and see all the stores with their decorated windows along with the decorations crossing the street and the snow gently coming down, it was so beautiful.
During the later years after a few failed marriages, I managed to get it right with Jen and to this day I am so happy she took a chance and it's been an adventure ever since.
We had dogs and cats growing up and later on parakeets and again our cats which I've always loved.
One thing only Jen knows, was one summer day I was practicing tennis at the high school when I notice it had become extremely quiet. No insect or birds chatting and, as far as I knew, I was the only person there. I looked up toward the west end goal post and saw a rectangular black object hovering over the tree line, large and with no sound, for approximately 2 minutes then slipping down below the tree line. No idea what it was, so case closed.
SCHOOL
School memories are mostly with my friends going on field trips to the State Museum, Howe Caverns, the old air raid drills where we went to the basement to lay face down on the floor.
High school years were fun making new friends and having different teachers for every subject. I liked reading, going to football and basketball games, and joined the tennis team which I enjoyed playing for many years.
To everyone's path I have crossed over the years, I wish you happiness and success.
Well, I could go on but this will give you an idea about me. In closing, I just hope everyone I knew can remember at least a funny or kind memory of me, and lastly Jen, thanks for making me smile and being a kind and loving person.
May the Force be with you.
