It is with much love and sorrow that we say goodbye to Patrick "Pat" Griffin, age 74, of Jefferson, Iowa, who passed away on May 26, 2025.
Pat was a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and good-natured friend. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley (Prilipp) Griffin; his children, Dan (Karla) Griffin of Marion, Iowa, Tracy (Ryan) Caffrey of Rosemount, Minnesota, and Lisa Scheuermann of Ankeny, Iowa; his grandchildren, Jessica (Anthony Valvoda) Heald, Sommer Scheuermann, Griffin Caffrey, Holden Scheuermann, Abbie Caffrey, and Connor Caffrey; and step-grandchildren, Kallie (Joe) Cach, Jacob (Nicole) Kriegel; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Dick (Dorothy) Griffin; and in-laws Don (Sandy) Prilipp and Bev Steffenson. Preceded in death by parents Richard and Leona Griffin; mother-in-law Cora Prilipp; brother-in-law Carol Steffenson, and nephew Denny Prilipp.
Pat grew up on the family farm near Paton, Iowa-a place that he always held dear. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1973 and married Shirley on March 10 of that same year. They first made their home in Fort Dodge before moving to Vinton. In 1982, Pat brought his family back to Jefferson, where he began his longtime career at Home State Bank, retiring after nearly 30 years.
Pat was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he found community and meaning through volunteering and service. He enjoyed reading his Bible and devotionals. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Pappy-he cherished every moment with them and took pride in watching them grow and excel in all they did.
Pat will be remembered for his thoughtful words of wisdom, unwavering love for his wife and family, and overwhelming kindness to anyone he met.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson, Iowa. The family will visit with friends at the church beginning at 9:30am Thursday, one hour prior to the funeral.
Interment will be Thursday afternoon at Vernon Township Cemetery, Renwick, Iowa.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson, Iowa.
