Patrick J. McGinley

Patrick J. McGinley, of Broomall, a beloved figure in the lives of many, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born in Centralia, PA, he was the son of James and Mary (née Dowling) McGinley. Shortly thereafter, his family settled in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, where he spent the first third of his life and developed the strong values, life-long friendships and the strong sense of community that would define him for the rest of his life. As those who knew him would agree—you can take the man out of Fairmount, but you can’t take Fairmount out of the man!

Following his graduation from St. Joseph’s University – as the first college graduate in his family – Pat embarked on a 30-year career in the banking industry, primarily with Industrial Valley Bank (which ultimately became part of Wachovia Bank). His career was marked by ever-increasing levels of responsibilities and successes. His quantitative abilities were matched only by his strong character, work ethic and loyalty. He was incredibly well-liked and trusted both within his company and in the general industry. He developed countless friendships in the Philadelphia banking community, many of which lasted until the current day.

Pat was not only distinguished by his professional accomplishments but also by his honorable service in the National Guard, reflecting a profound commitment to his country and community. Pat was a true patriot and believed strongly in giving back to his country and community; he carried that sense of duty into every role he played, from family man to friend.

Pat will be remembered fondly for the deep and enduring bond he shared with his immediate and extended family. His beloved wife, Noreen, was the love of his life for over 56 years, bringing him immense joy and unwavering companionship through the years. From the moment they met, their lives moved forward together with energy and purpose.

He and Noreen created an idyllic, stable and loving childhood for their three sons and their support was ever-constant. Nothing made him happier than having his three sons and their families together for a birthday or holiday celebration. And he cherished time spent with his many nieces and nephews, firmly believing that the bigger the gathering, the better! Over the years, Pat naturally grew into the role of patriarch—not only of his immediate family but also of his extended family, offering guidance, humor, and love. He rarely turned down an invitation and did his best to host as well, most recently hosting a wonderful gathering at his home this past Christmas. He treasured meals shared with close friends and family up until the very end, especially breakfast at Mrs. Marty’s Deli after daily Mass, Tuesday nights at Anthony’s, and dinners at his favorite local spots with his sons. Pat found tremendous joy in being a grandfather— Pop-Pop offered unconditional love to each of his seven grandchildren and forged a unique and special connection with each of them. He had an unwavering belief that each would have a happy and successful life.

A devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of St. Pius X Church for over 50 years, Pat’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He attended Mass daily and carried his rosary with him at all times, grounding his daily actions in prayer and compassion. His core beliefs guided the way he treated others—with grace, respect, and humility. During his more active years, Pat served as head of the parish Finance Committee, playing a key role during a period of transformation at St. Pius X. He was also a beloved member of the church choir, known for his rich tenor voice that could be heard—and felt—throughout the church. Pat’s presence within the parish community was profound, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, service, and love.

Pat had a wide range of interests that enriched his life and brought joy to those around him. He enjoyed golf, tennis, and occasionally skiing in his more active years and found great satisfaction in gardening and landscape design—nurturing the natural beauty around him with care and creativity. A passionate amateur genealogist, Pat meticulously researched and documented the McGinley and Waldron family trees, preserving a legacy for future generations. Though not formally trained, he was a gifted tenor whose heartfelt renditions of “Danny Boy” often moved listeners to tears.

His analytical mind was matched by a keen interest in politics and current events, and he enjoyed spirited, thoughtful discussions that reflected his intellect and depth. Pat was a lifelong learner, energized by new ideas, meaningful conversations, and the opportunity to connect with others on a deeper level. But what really made him truly the happiest was simply spending quality time with his family and closest friends over a good meal (typically salmon for him) and a drink or two whether it be a chilled Chardonnay or an ice-cold beer!

Pat will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his generosity, warmth, and unwavering optimism. A firm believer in giving back, Pat gave far more to this world than he ever asked for in return. His presence left a lasting imprint, and those fortunate enough to have known him are undeniably better for it.

Pat was the beloved husband of the late Noreen (née Waldron) McGinley; the loving father of Joseph McGinley (Margot), Patrick McGinley (Jennifer), and Matthew McGinley. He was the proud and caring grandfather of Samuel, Madeline, Colman, Maribel, Maeve, Clementine, and Cashel. Pat is predeceased by his siblings, Jim McGinley, Cookie O’Brien, and Jack McGinley.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Pat’s life beginning with his Viewing on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008, followed by his Funeral Mass, 11:00 AM. Interment at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
