Patrick Michael Murray, Sr., of Hanover, passed away in his home on March 15, 2024, at the age of 84. He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane (Pascoe) Murray. Pat was most proud of his beautiful family. He was the loving father of Sandra Diffenderfer and her husband Daniel, and James Murray; the stepfather of Andy Timmons and his wife Connie, Carrie Bankert and her husband Jim, Cathy Humpert and her husband Scott, and Christina Garcia and her husband Juan; the cherished grandfather of Christopher, Shane and his wife Samantha, Rachelle and her husband Aydin, Jacob, Dylan, Charlie, Ben, and Nick. Pat was a doting Pop Pop to his great grandchildren. He took great delight in his expanding family with the addition of Brandon and Devin, Baby Rocco and Baby Leyla. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carole Jean (Waters) Murray; his son, Patrick Michael Murray, Jr.; his parents, James and Elvira (Remesch) Murray; his sisters Marie and Kitty; and his brothers Charles, James and Joe.
Pat retired from the US Post Office, Fayette Street Baltimore, after 42 years of service as a Claims Administrator. Pat was locally celebrated for his role in establishing the Post Office's North Pole where underserved children could send letters to Santa. "Santa Pat" would then respond to each letter with an encouraging Christmas message and donations.
Pat graduated Patterson Park High School. He was affectionally know as Murph to his many friends in his Highlandtown neighborhood. He and his beloved brother-in-law Jerry were members of the White Swans social club. Pat has been a member of St Joseph's Parish in Hanover PA since 1983. He was a devout Catholic, strong in his faith.
Pat enjoyed travel with his wife of 24 years, Mary Jane. He loved to recount stories of their adventures to Ireland, Mexico, California, and other locales. They shared priceless memories of their vacations together.
Pat was an avid fan of his Baltimore Teams. "Murph" was devastated when his beloved Colts left town but quickly adopted the Ravens as his team. Pat, his son and grandsons enjoyed cheering the Orioles and Ravens through every game, every season.
Anyone who knew Pat would describe him as the kindest, gentlest man. He had a big heart and a beautiful soul. He lived life for his family and in accordance with the Scripture, Philippians 2:3: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. He was an inspiration to all who loved him, and he will be so missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering in celebration of Patrick's life on Thursday, March 21st, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown and to his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 22nd, 11:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover.
